GDPR 

The GDPR came into force on 25 May 2018. The new Regulations build upon the requirements already in place for protecting personal data which arise from the Data Protection Act 1998.

In accordance with the GDPR anyone processing Personal Data must comply with the six principles of good practice. These provide that Personal Data must:

1. be processed fairly, lawfully and transparently;
2. only be used for the purpose for which it was collected;
3. be adequate, relevant and not excessive for the purpose for which it is being processed;
4. be accurate and kept up-to-date;
5. not be kept longer than necessary to fulfil the purpose of its collection;
6. be kept secure and protected from unauthorised processing, loss, damage or destruction
   [which includes the data not being transferred to a country or territory outside the European Economic Area unless the personal data is adequately protected and/or consent of the Data Subject has been provided].

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

• Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information. 
• Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete. 
• Your right to erasure - You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances. 
• Your right to restriction of processing - You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances. 
• Your right to object to processing - You have the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.
• Your right to data portability - You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

ICO

The Information Commissioners Office (ICO) is responsible for supervising the implementation of the GDPR in the UK. An entity is required by law to register and pay the data protection fee if it is processing personal data outside of the exemptions. 

The Bookkeeper is registered with the ICO, proving that we are complying with the legislation.
